Live Blog: Social Sciences Council Meeting

Posted by Jeremy on 2/22/2010
There are three meetings of the Social Sciences Council per quarter, and today wraps up the the last of Winter Quarter.  SSC represents the 16 Social Sciences Departments (including all 3 departments in the School of Public Affairs).  After the link you'll find all pertinent information covered at the meeting.

At today's meeting we discussed:

1. Updates from the GSA Forum - For example, did you know that LuValle will match textbook prices to the lowest you can find online?

2. Haiti Fundraiser - We need to find a good house or restaurant space to host this.  In the meantime, our donation of $500 is proceeding.

3. Funding Requests: We approved the funding requests of several departments, including Urban Planning's last social event.

4. SSC 2010-11 Elected Officers: Next quarter we will begin transitioning the council to a new set of officers.  All of those who are interested in an officer position should consider attending the first meeting of Spring Quarter.

5. March 4 Day of Action: The Vice President of UAW Local 2865 (Jorge Cabrera) and a 2nd Year from UCLA Law (Lincoln Ellis) presented on the activities of March 4.  They encouraged all to participate.  For those TA's or other graduate student employees participating, they recommended clearing any contracted responsibilities with a supervisor before participating in the walkout.

March 4 Day of Action meetings are at 6:30pm on the 3rd Floor of the Public Affairs Building in the Graduate Student Lounge.
